Watch your wallet in HCMC

Today a girl mugged me near Pham Ngu Lao area. She mumbled something about “massage”, I said no, she mumbled some more, said “Where you go now?” Then she grabbed my crotch and snatched my wallet from my pocket. Amazingly, she gave it back to me, then jumped on a waiting motorbike with some guy driving. She didn’t take any money. She must have had a pang of conscience.

While I was walking back to my hotel, a Viet guy came running very fast past me into an alley, pursued by a white woman with another Viet guy. She said he had stolen her wallet.

A Viet girl I know said that the other day, a guy tried to snatch her bag.

This all happened in Pham Ngu Lao area. Not on deserted streets late at night, but on busy streets with many people. You really have to be very careful to protect your possessions here.
